If chords are a problem, Miracle takes Frank to a parachute jump. Only then does it let him go back to playing music. Miracle keeps him shooting until his eyes and fingers move fast enough for it. Hitting the right piano notes "shoots the ducks." The ducks move so fast, Frank must really know his notes to get a good score. One drill shows a shooting gallery on the computer screen. Instead, it explains what's wrong and activates extra drill work. If Frank's performance comes up really short, Miracle doesn't heap false praise. Then it suggests playing again until he gets it all right - and takes him back to the beginning of the piece. If Frank gets a lesson nearly right, an onscreen message tells him so. That keeps discouragement to a tolerable level. It can break up a long piece into sections and display only the part you want to work on right now. On the other hand, you can begin right with lesson one to learn to coordinate both hands on a piece from the outset. For example, if you want to learn your lessons the old way, one hand at a time, you can set Miracle to display just one hand's music line onscreen at a time. It uses computer power to do tricks live piano teachers can't do. It's a plug receptacle that lets you connect the keyboard to other computerized musical devices and play your recorded music on them, too.īut how good a piano teacher is it? Better than Judi. You can even combine up to 64 different run-throughs to create impressive multitrack recordings. If you get bored with a lesson, there are games that make you hit the right notes or chords to win points. In taking a lesson, you can first hear the music as it should be played. For lessons and practice, there's a built-in metronome and an automatic page-turner for the music you see on your computer screen.
Once you load the software, you can select a lesson, a practice room, a recording studio or a symphony hall. Miracle is a great deal more than just a piano teacher. Parents will also like its ability to keep track of nearly limitless numbers of students. Parents will love the fact that there is also a headphone jack, so only you need hear your mistakes. Its built-in speakers broadcast its sounds, which are very good considering Miracle's under-$500 price. It generates the sound of a piano, organ, harpsichord, synthesizer or vibraphone.
